Project brief

SUMMARY

Company description: Fidelity National Information Services, Inc. (FIS) is a Fortune 500® company and leading provider of FinTech solutions for merchants, banks, and capital markets firms globally. After finalizing its most recent deal to acquire Worldpay for $35 billion in Q3 of 2019, FIS became the largest processing and payments company in the world.

My role: As lead designer on this project, I worked with FIS’s creative team to create a 90 second unveiling video introducing FIS’s new product—Worldpay for Platforms—to its customers. I ensured visual brand identity was maintained, the client’s vision and objectives were met, and also collaborated through multiple steps of presentations and feedback.

The final product includes a mixture of stock video clips, custom motion graphics, and audio editing to create an energetic and welcoming unveiling video.

The process

PROBLEM SOLVING

During the initial client meeting with FIS Global, the client discussed their requirements, goals, target audience, and overall vision for the video. Key information such as the message, style preferences, current FIS video brand guidelines, and other specific elements were gathered. A big hurdle for this project was balancing the workload between sourcing voice actors and stock video, and also blending motion graphics with video editing to create a cohesive story.

SOLUTIONING

I sourced stock footage, images, music, and sound effects that not only followed FIS’s brand guidelines, but added their own voice and vision to the story. In addition, I also led the team in researching voice acting talent and scheduling the voice actor’s recording schedule. I ultimately ensured that the selected media aligned with the client's message and vision.

To align with other FIS videos in the market, I used thin line art motion graphics to simplify abstract concepts and make them more accessible to the audience.

I assembled the stock footage and motion graphics elements and arranged them to tell the best story about the introduction of Worldpay for Platforms. The overall video structure included:

  • Storyboarding: Using the client's vision and the collected assets, I made a rough storyboard to guide the editing process.

  • Rough cut with soundtrack: I cut the video clips and motion graphics in the order of the storyboard, aligning timing with the soundtrack.

  • Voice over and audio enhancement: The audio from the voice actor was cut and balanced alongside the appropriate clips throughout the video.

  • Transitions and Effects: Transitions (e.g., cuts, dissolves) and basic effects (e.g., color correction) were applied to enhance the flow and visual appeal of the video.

PROJECT REFLECTION

This project was an exciting experience from start to finish and really allowed me to push my design capabilities beyond product design and graphic design. I was given full range to pursue my interest in video editing and animation as the lead on this project. I now have a larger skillset for managing a video project from beginning to end, from sourcing voice actors to creating motion graphics to tell a story.
